Academic Research Internship Program

The Academic Research Internship Program at ceLEARN facilitates university students from universities and academic institutions around the world in order to help them undertake grass-root level academic, applied and experiential research. The Academic Research Internship Program helps participants to gain required learning and course credits. The program outcomes also provide a distinctive edge to their career as they apply for graduate programs, professional schools, residency programs or post-university / post-research careers.

The Academic Research Internship Program provides for students / learners to gain credits, content or expertise for their under-graduate, graduate, post-graduate or post-university requirements.

Research Intern (RIs)

Under the Academic Research Internship Program, the interns work as a Research Interns (RIs).

ceLEARN places RIs at its various fieldwork and research locations being managed and operated with the support of partner NGOs and Govt institutions. The Program Director along with technical advisors, independent researchers and professionals or university professors provide research supervision and mentor-ship for research projects, thesis as well as doctoral dissertations in India for university students from around the world.

Research Needs of ceLEARN and its partners

The focus of research at ceLEARN is to investigate the assessment and description of issues linked with people, society and the institutions with respect to social, health, economic, education, and ecology/environment. It is aimed to broaden the insights into cross-cultural development and sustainable solutions. With focus on interdisciplinary research levels and vary from ethics, spirituality, politics, society, psychology, health management and culture. By means of research, related events and publications of global thinking and awareness will be emphasised to encourage the cultivation of sustainable development and peace.

This program is enriched with the support of some professionals and researchers linked to nonprofits, private and government institutions.

  • Cultural Studies and Humanities: Intercultural Communication studies, Intercultural Psychology, International Peace & Conflict Studies,
  • Trans-disciplinary Gender studies
  • Management: Global Management, Organisation development, Cultural Management
  • Tourism: Eco Tourism and Sustainability, Environmental Tourism
  • Health and Social sciences: Social Work, Nursing and Health Care Management
  • Environmental Sciences: Renewable energies, Environmental studies, Ecology and Environmental Management
  • Future Studies
  • Any other related field of research

Selected research papers and articles will be published in the Journal for Experiential Learning and Research (JELR).  

Under the Academic Research Internship Program, the Research Interns (RI) are broadly divided in two categories:

i) AFRIs / ARIs – Academic (Fieldwork and) Research Interns

This category of research internship is mainly targeted on capable Bachelors or Master students who are willing to work on analytical and/or implementation projects assigned by ceLEARN in the area of applicant’s academic interest. We DO NOT require research proposals from AFRI-ARIs or interns in applied-project track because they will be assigned with specific projects by ceLEARN Research Desk. The research may be undertaken with the supervision of a research professional under lab conditions ranging from 6-weeks to 6-months.

ii)  DRI – Doctoral Research Interns for Ph.D. / R & D

This category of research is directed towards Ph.D. students who conduct independent research focussed on a pre-selected topic research that may also potentially bring in ceLEARN and its partner institutions / grass-root level NGOs innovative perspectives.  The applicants for the DRI-GRAs track are required to include a research proposal in their application. Please see the following proposal template for the information that should be included in the proposal.

  • Problem statement and research objectives
  • Literature review
  • Contribution to ceLEARN’s mission, and the relation to the student’s dissertation research
  • Approaches and preliminary results
  • Research plan in the following semester with estimated timelines
  • References
  • Résumé or CV, and advisor’s information

ii)  GRI – General Research Interns 

This category of research is directed towards university or post-university students who wish to conduct independent or guided research or blend of both AFRIs and DRIs as stated above.

Data Sharing Agreement and Research Documentation

All RIs and interns are required to complete relevant data sharing agreements and legal documents before accessing to ceLEARN / partner institution / Govt office / NGO data to access and investigate the data possessed by ceLEARN / partner institutions / Govt office / NGOs. The applicant student’s university academic advisors of the RIs/interns are also required to complete the data sharing agreements and legal documents if they need to access to the data to guide the students. RIs and interns are required to submit mid-term and end-of-research term reports about their progresses, and to present them in ceLEARN seminar meetings. The report should be professionally documented; and the following report template for the information should be included in the report.

  • Abstract
  • Introductory sections (please include general background, literature review, research gaps, research objectives, and contributions)
  • Methods
  • Findings and results
  • Progress based on the proposed timelines
  • Future research plan
  • References

RIs and interns are also required to turn in presentation slides, few-page research brief, and code (with reasonable amount of comments) along with their end-of-term/semester reports. The ceLEARN evaluates the performance of RIs and interns based on the reports and presentations. In particular, we evaluate the significance of the findings and results, and examine the alignment of RIs/interns’ progress with the proposed timelines. The appointments of RIs and interns with satisfactory progress and interesting future research plan are renewable. A detailed proposal about the future research plan may be required if necessary.
